Q - What are the speed limits on our roads?
A - If the area is built up, there are houses, places of work & street lighting, it is very likely it will be a 30mph zone. All other limits will be clearly & regularly signed.
Q - Can you advise me on the locations of cameras in the Greater Manchester area?
A - Please look on www.drivesafe.org.uk
Q - At what speed do I commit an offence?
A - Even if you travel 1mph over the limit you are committing an offence. DRIVESAFE's thresholds are in accordance with Association of Chief Police Officers guidelines. However, be warned, if the Police perform speed enforcement, they may prosecute below this threshold.
Q - Can I get away with speeding because I drive a company car?
A - No, the NIP will be sent to the company & it is then the responsibility of the company to inform us who was driving at the time of the offence.
Q - I am a company car driver, who will pay?
A - Unless your employers are very generous, it will be the driver themselves who pay the fine and receive the penalty points.
Q - Are the rules different for new drivers?
A - Yes. Inexperienced drivers, who passed their test less than two years ago, will only be allowed to accumulate 6 points (instead of 12) before they have their licence taken off them. They then cannot have it back until they have re-passed both their theory & practical driving tests.
