Mobile/Laser

Mobile/Laser cameras are deployed from the back of an enforcement van, allowing them to be moved around Greater Manchester as needed. The mobile camera vans are clearly marked to indicate that they are conducting speed enforcement and operators will place additional signing to warn of the camera, if necessary, to remind drivers of the speed limit.

  • If in the operators opinion a vehicle is found to be speeding, then the laser is aimed at the vehicle, the speed is verified and the details of the activation are recorded onto a DVD.

Mobile camera technology is more flexible than fixed cameras, allowing us to conduct speed enforcement on roads where a fixed housing could not be installed.

The vans can also be deployed to roads where there is concern from the community, local authority or local police about speeding vehicles.

Sites are usually visited for a matter of hours at a time and the vans move around the Greater Manchester mobile sites to ensure best coverage of the road network.

The Police have discretion to undertake speed enforcement anywhere within the Greater Manchester area, activity which is separate to and not funded by or through the Partnership, and not subject to the Partnership's protocols nor scrunity of the Partnership Board.

Compliance with these protocols and procedures has no bearing upon enforcement of offences detected by the use of the safety cameras, and non-compliance with them by the Partnership or representative of the Partnership does not provide any mtigation or nor defence for an alleged offence committed under current UK law.
