• Why have I been offered the course?

The police offer courses to drivers/riders as an alternative to a fixed penalty or prosecution for the offence of speeding. Courses must be completed within 4 months from the date of the offence.

• What does attending a course involve?

The course is a combination of listening to information and group discussion.

• Where are the courses held?

The Greater Manchester courses take place at five centres; Bolton, Bury, Carrington (Trafford), Gorton and Newton Heath. You can view and print maps on our course venues page.

• How long are the courses?

The course is 4 hours in length, and starts at either 8.00am, 1.00pm or 5.30pm.

• When do the courses take place?

Courses are usually held at four venues on different days of the week including evenings and Saturdays:

          > Bolton (Bolton Arena)

          > Bury (Seedfield Centre)

          > Carrington (Carrington Business Park)

          > Gorton (Holiday Inn Express)

          > Newton Heath (Holiday Inn)

• How much does the course cost?

The course fee payable is currently £79.50 in Greater Manchester (but may vary throughout the country), for the 4-hour course. If you attend and sucessfully complete the course you will not have to pay the £60.00 fixed penalty.

• Can I attend a course other than in Greater Manchester?

The scheme operates in most other areas of England, Wales and N. Ireland but run on different days in different areas. If you wish to attend a course other than in Greater Manchester you will be given some choices when booking online. Alternatively refer to the Service Provider telephone numbers with your course offer letter - you will need your driving licence number to hand to book a course. • Who are the trainers?

Approved Driving Instructors who have passed an advanced test carry out all the sessions.

• Will there be a test?

No, but the course is most effective when there is interaction between the trainers and participants.

• Can I fail?

You must satisfactorily complete the course which means that you have to actively take part. Having done so no further action will be taken.

• Can you accommodate my special requirements?

• Can I attend a course if I can not find my driving licence?

It is essential you provide your driving licence number when applying for a course and produce photographic identification on the day of the course. If you have lost your UK licence contact the DVLA on tel 0300 790 6801 or visit the DVLA website for advice.
