Back in April 2008, through negotiation with Cream, the organisers of the annual Creamfields dance festival, Cheshire Safer Roads Partnership secured a spot on site to promote anti-drug drive messages.
Working alongside the Impaired Driving Group (comprising the Fire & Rescue Service, Police, DAAT, Probation Service, local councils and Ambulance Service) a brief was drawn up and a campaign was devised alongside Tangerine PR.
The aim of the campaign was to raise awareness of the FIT test (Field Impairment Test) and the severe penalties if caught drug driving.
The campaign was designed to include existing work on drug driving, including the fit to drive website and leaflets.
A three stage campaign was drawn up, a general education campaign, a targeted campaign with clubbers and activity at Creamfields itself.
The campaign kicked off with the general education element three weeks before the festival (this year held on 23/24 August). The existing "you're done if you do" leaflets were handed out in shopping streets across Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Cheshire. In all, roughly 30,000 leaflets were handed out.
This was followed by a more targeted flyer to clubbers which incorporated anti-drug drive messages and information on FIT testing alongside the Cream logo. These were handed out in bars and clubs across the three areas over three weekends in the run up to the festival. In all 6,000 of these flyers were handed out.
Both leaflets advertised the fit to drive website and encouraged people to visit the site to find out further information.
To kick start a campaign locally, Drivesafe is launching an online competition to win signed Bon Jovi merchandise, handing out thousands of information leaflets at their up and coming gig in Manchester on Sunday 22nd June. The aim of the campaign is to gain an insight into the attitudes and concerns of a wide range of people on the issue to be able to better tailor future campaigns. To enter the prize draw all you have to do is respond to 5 statements. It couldn't be easier. THE COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED.
