Advanced Motorists

There are two main Advanced Driving organisations in the UK, both of which have local groups in the Greater Manchester Area:

RoSPA Advanced Drivers And Riders (RoADAR)

RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders' aim is to reduce road casualties by encouraging an interest in road safety and by improving driving standards, knowledge and skill. In order to do this, Manchester's local RoADAR group will provide free training to help you improve your driving skills and prepare you to take the ultimate Advanced Test.

Join a nationwide organisation and receive FREE advanced driver or rider training.

Everyone thinks that advanced training is expensive, but joining a local training group can cost you as little as £40. You then just pay for the test. You will meet other people, take part in social activities and work with a volunteer Observers in preparation for the Advanced Test.

Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM)

The IAM  is the UK's leading road safety charity, dedicated to raising driving standards through our Advanced Driving Test, engaging with the road-using public and influencing road safety policy (for example, through the work of the IAM Motoring Trust).

One of the IAM’s key goals is to help its Members and Associates develop the advanced skills that help make driving and riding a more enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Being an advanced driver or rider is a journey of continuous learning, and one of its key stages is the internationally recognised Advanced Test. Pioneered by the IAM, it is this for which we are perhaps best known. There is, however, much more. Established in 1956, the IAM is a road safety organisation dedicated to raising driving and riding standards and reducing the number of collisions that occur on our roads.
