The RideSafe BackSafe initiative promotes defensive road riding for effective risk assessment and encourages all bikers to improve their skills through training. It also emphasises the benefits of and reasons why protective clothing should be worn.
2005 saw a significant increase in the number of motorcyclists who died or suffered serious injuries on our roads. Although safety cameras and hard-hitting advertising campaigns have there place, RideSafe BackSafe was created as a new, focussed and more sophisticated road safety initiative, just for bikers. Since its launch, the numbers of deaths and serious injuries have reduced drastically; even though the national trend during that time has seen a 5% increase each year.
RideSafe BackSafe is now acknowledged by the motorcycling industry, road safety partnerships and other agencies as being an authoritative and respected voice, dedicated to supporting bikers and saving lives.
The initiative is actively managed by Greater Manchester Casualty Reduction Partnership but its activities now reach and influence bikers across the North West region and, through this website, across the whole of the UK.
